Abstract


RSIV, the Remote Sensing Imagery Vocabulary, is a lightweight vocabulary aiming to provide terms to describe remote sensing imagery. This documents specifies properties introduced by the Remote Sensing Imagery Vocabulary.

This specification is an evolving document. This document may be updated or added to based on implementation experience, but no commitment is made by the authors regarding future updates. This document is generated by combining a machine-readable Remote Sensing Imagery Vocabulary Namespace expressed in RDF/XML with a specification template and a set of per-term documents.

1. Introduction


Satellite imagery is one of the most important sources of geoinformation. Many images from different programs are disposed on Internet enabling users its use or processing for different purposes. The Remote Sensing Imagery Vocabulary (RSIV) is defined as a set of classes and properties intending to standardize the modelling of basic information from remote sensing imagery, in order to facilitate the linking of available resources.

3. Descriptions about RSIV


The Core RSIV definitions presented here are written using a computer language (RDF/OWL) that makes it easy for software to process some basic facts about the terms in the Remote Sensing Imagery Vocabulary, and consequently about the things described using RSIV.

3.1. Evolution and extension of RSIV

The Remote Sensing Imagery Vocabulary is identified by the namespace URI "http://www.linkedearth.org/RSIV/ns#".

Revisions and extensions of RSIV are conducted through edits to the namespace document, which by convention is published on the Web at the namespace URI.

The properties and types defined here provide some basic concepts for describing remote sensing imagery information. Other vocabularies (e.g. the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative Vcabulary DCMI, etc.) can also be mixed in with RSIV terms, as can local extensions. RSIV is designed to be extended
